The Core Curriculum
The Extended Curriculum
The Extended curriculum, made up of the Core curriculum and the Supplement, has been designed for the more academically able and leads naturally into higher education or professional training. It is targeted at those expected to achieve grades A* to E. The Supplement describes the extra topics or depth which must be added to the Core Curriculum to produce the Extended curriculum.
Students do not need to enter for the same level of curriculum in all subjects.
Target Grades | Grades Available |
---|---|
Core Curriculum | C D E F G |
Extended Curriculum | A* A B C D E |
The overlap of three grades (C, D and E) is designed to accommodate students who perform either better or worse than what their teachers expect. Students who fail to meet the minimum satisfactory standard for either the Core Curriculum (Grade G) or the Extended Curriculum (Grade E) will be ungraded.
Assessment:
A Lifelong Passport for Study and Work
The assessment has two important roles:
to prove what a student has learnt
to improve a student’s understanding and skills
Good assessment lies at the heart of a good education. Our assessments are designed to be fair, valid, reliable and practicable, so every Cambridge exam provides a true picture of a student’s ability, wherever and whenever the exam was taken. This means our assessments have real, lasting value and can be a lifelong passport to higher education or employment.
Accurately Assessing Learning
All learners take the primary and Lower secondary checkpoint assessments at the end of Cambridge Primary and Cambridge Lower Secondary courses. The Cambridge Checkpoint assesses students’ proficiency and ability in English, Math and Science.
These checkpoints provide teachers with an international benchmark to measure their students’ progress and tailor individual learning skills. Furthermore, Cambridge ensures a feedback report based on each student’s results, which enables detailed and structured reporting to their parents.
Our end-of-programme assessments give students focus, motivation and a challenge. We assess what is of greatest value to our students - deep subject knowledge, conceptual understanding and higher-order thinking skills.
